1. On 14th September 1949, the Government of India accepted the Hindi language as the official language. To commemorate this, we celebrate “Hindi Day” on 14th September.


 2. The word Hindi is derived from the Persian word ‘Hind’. It means the land of the Indus River.

3. The first Hindi journal was published in 2000. It was the debut of the Hindi Language on the World Wide Web.

4. Bihar was the first state in India to declare Hindi as its official language by replacing Urdu.

5. Hindi is the native language of around 600 million people worldwide.

6. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in 1977, proudly showed respect for the Hindi Language and presented a speech in the Hindi language to the United Nations.

7. Hindi language is spoken in New Zealand, Nepal, UAE, Uganda, Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, Bangladesh, Trinidad, Tobago, and Pakistan.

8. Several Hindi words which are spoken frequently such as ‘Achha’ and ‘Surya Namaskar’ have been included in the Oxford Dictionary.

9. Amir Khusro, a renowned poet, was the first writer who composed and released the first poem in Hindi.

10. Hindi language was deemed as a primary language under Article 343 of the Parliament on January 26, 1950.

11. The first Hindi Typewriters were made in the 1930s.

12. Part XVII of the Indian Constitution talks about the Official Language. Under Article 343, the official language of the Union has been approved, which comprises Hindi in Devanagari script and English.

13. Hindi became the only working language of the Union Government in 1965.

14. Hindi is considered the fourth most-spoken first language in the world, after Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and English.

15. Prem Sagar by Lallu Lal published in 1805 is the first published book in Hindi.
